Frequently Asked Questions

Interchange is the fee collected by the cardholder's bank (the card issuer) on every transaction. These rates are set by Visa and apply to all processors. It's the base cost that processors pay on every transaction, which is then passed on to merchants as part of their processing fees.

Visa typically updates interchange rates twice per year, in April and October. We update this page to reflect the latest published rates. For the most current official rates, you can visit Visa's merchant resources page.

CPS (Custom Payment Service) rates are Visa's best interchange rates, available when transactions meet specific criteria like being swiped/dipped and settled within 24 hours. EIRF (Electronic Interchange Reimbursement Fee) is a downgrade category with higher rates that applies when CPS requirements aren't met.

Visa Signature and Infinite are premium card tiers with enhanced rewards and benefits for cardholders. They carry higher interchange rates than standard consumer cards. Signature is the mid-tier premium, while Infinite is the highest tier.

To qualify for the lowest rates: use chip readers or tap-to-pay, settle batches within 24 hours, capture complete transaction data, and consider Level 2/3 processing for B2B transactions. Proper terminal configuration and merchant category code also affect rates.
